Trip Intake in MediRoutes
The four ways trips enter MediRoutes, and where to complete each one
Trips can enter MediRoutes in four ways. MediRoutes Web is the recommended platform for trip intake and is where most users should work. Two methods- file import and calendar (recurring) trips- are only available in MediRoutes Desktop.
Important: Once trips are in MediRoutes, regardless of how they are created, they can be viewed, scheduled, and dispatched in MediRoutes Web.
| Method | Best for | Where to do it | Automation level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual trip entry | Phone requests, private pay, facility-scheduled trips | Web | Manual |
| Broker integration (API) | API-connected brokers | Automatic no action required | Fully automated |
| File import | Bulk trip files | Desktop only | Semi-automated |
| Calendar (recurring) trips | Standing orders and repeating appointments | Desktop only | Semi-automated |
1. Manual Trip Entry
When to use it: Use manual entry when you receive a trip request directly, such as by phone, from a facility, or from a private pay passenger.
2. Broker Integration
MediRoutes integrates with many NEMT brokers, including ModivCare, MTM, and MediTrans. When an integration is active, trips are sent into MediRoutes automatically through the API.
With broker integration:
- Trips flow into MediRoutes without manual entry
- Trip changes and cancellations sync automatically
Trips sent to MediRoutes from a broker will appear in both Web and Desktop.
Note: Contact MediRoutes Support if you need help setting up a new broker integration.
3. File Import
When to use it: Use file import when you receive trips as a batch file, such as a broker-provided spreadsheet or an export from another system.
Important: File import is not available in MediRoutes Web. This method must be completed in MediRoutes Desktop.
4. Calendar (Recurring) Trips
When to use it: Calendar trips — also called recurring trips or standing orders — are used when a passenger travels on a repeating schedule, such as dialysis or physical therapy appointments.
Important: Calendar trips are not available in MediRoutes Web. These trips must be created and edited in MediRoutes Desktop.
